ABOUT common knowledge

 

Common Knowledge is a Vancouver-based production company specializing in genre films that explore philosophical themes around identity, society, and reality, often using metaphor to communicate ideas.

Its recent film “With Love and a Major Organ” had a successful festival run, premiering at SXSW before screening at over 20 festivals including Fantasia, BIFan, and Munich and theatrically releasing in the US, UK, and Canada. It won Best Feature at Santa Fe FF, Canadian FF, and ReelWorld FF, among other festival awards, and garnered five Leo Award nominations. The company is led by Madeleine Davis, an alumni of the IFFR Talent Lab.

ABOUT MADELEINE DAVIS

Madeleine Davis is a Canadian-British Producer and Writer based between London, UK and Vancouver, Canada. She has over a decade of experience across feature, documentary, and commercial mediums.

Her most recent feature film, "With Love and a Major Organ" (2023), premiered at SXSW and went on to play Fantasia, BiFAN, Munich FF, and many others, winning awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Acting. Other films include “Freaks” (TIFF ’18), “Dhulpa” (VIFF ’22), and “Athlete’s World” (SXSW ’18). Past projects have received support from Telefilm Canada, the Harold Greenberg Fund, Canada Council for the Arts, Women in the Directors Chair, and MuchFACT.

Madeleine holds a Master’s degree in Creative Writing from Cambridge and a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from UBC. She has a penchant for grounded, high-concept sci-fi, but enjoys anything that moves the wheels of her brain. She is an alumni of the IFFR Talent Lab.

October 2022 - 100 Sunset is selected for funding as part of Telefilm’s Talent to Watch program.

February 2022 - With Love and a Major Organ goes to camera with funding from Telefilm Canada, WIDC, the Harold Greenberg Fund, CBC, and the CFC.

October 2022 - Dhulpa wins Jury award at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema.

October 2022 - Dhulpa plays VIFF.
